Sakib (he/him), Youth Leader
"The TERT (Together End Racism) project was incredibly beneficial to me in many ways. First, it gave me the opportunity to engage with the community and have meaningful conversations about racism and social justice. Being part of discussions and workshops helped me broaden my understanding of systemic issues and ways to actively contribute to change. I also appreciated the networking opportunities. Connecting with like-minded individuals, community leaders, and activists allowed me to build relationships with people who are just as passionate about making a difference. These connections have been inspiring and have opened doors for future collaboration. On a personal level, this project challenged me to grow. Hearing firsthand experiences from different communities helped me develop a deeper sense of empathy and awareness. It pushed me to reflect on my own biases and how I can use my voice to advocate for equity and inclusion. The knowledge I gained from this project has given me the confidence to engage in conversations about racism and take action in my everyday life. ... I'm grateful to have been involved and look forward to continuing the work to help create a more inclusive and just society."
Mahdi (he/him), Youth Leader
“Being able to meet with different youth who brought diverse ideas and perspectives helped me realize what I wanted to do with my own program. Supporting people experiencing homelessness was an idea I had never considered until I saw other members taking action to support their communities. The Resilient Youth for Change (RYC) project has developed my sense of civic responsibility, which I can use to continue contributing to positive change in our community".
"RYC provided the foundation for addressing social issues, with the support and guidance of social work professors and community advocates. I was always hesitant about starting social issue campaigns, but learning that change can begin with small steps and grow from there gave me my ‘aha’ moment. It inspired me to create and lead my own project."
Aisha (she/her), Feminist Leader
“Before joining Women RISE program, I struggled with lower confidence. The experience motivated me to continue my education, which boosted my confidence tenfold. I truly never thought I would be able to study again—a dream I had almost given up on.”
Inspired by the encouragement she received, Aisha pursued graduate studies and is now nearing completion of her Master’s degree.
Today, Aisha’s work has reached the global stage. She and her team have been invited to the University of Oxford as global finalists in the Map the System Global Finals for their award-winning research on gendered industry devaluation and systemic inequities.
“Women RISE helped restore my confidence and motivation to get back up. I am now more confident in applying for roles I deserve and in pursuing opportunities I once thought were beyond my reach.”
